Medusa’s Raft

I was inspired to write this macabre ballad after watching a feature on the painting, “The Raft of the Medusa” by Théodore Géricault which depicts a scene of mass murder and cannibalism aboard a makeshift raft following the sinking of the French frigate, “The Medusa” in 1816. I recorded the resulting ballad at home with multitracked Appalachian mountain dulcimer, bansitar, mandolin, bodhran, tagelharpa bastarda, monochord, shruti box and voice.
