“The Great Silkie of the Sule Skerry” is a traditional Scots ballad that has long been a favourite of mine. I used to play the ballad on guitar, but because of arthritic fingers, playing the guitar is no longer an option for me, so I decided to compose a completely new arrangement. Played and recorded entirely by myself at home, the arrangement features an array of instruments which I hope set a suitably “other worldly” atmosphere for this darkly supernatural tale. (The recording also includes various grey seal grunts and groans!)
